Louise Bertha (nee: Bowie) Gardner, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam.
The memorial gathering will be at Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM. The memorial service will follow at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 AM with Rev. Vivian Meier officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
The former Louise Bertha Bowie was born on February 6, 1927 in Quitman, TX to the late Ella V. Jackson and J.D. Edwards. Following her graduation from Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas, TX, Louise attended Prairie View College (now Prairie View A & M University, Prairie View, TX). She was an active member of Munger Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas.
On October 4, 1946, Louise was united in marriage to Charles C. Gardner Sr., in Dallas. Later the couple moved to Los Angeles, CA, where their only child, a son, Charles “Chucky” C. Gardner, Jr. was born. Louise was a loving wife and loving mother.
Before retiring in 1987, Louise was employed for more than 35 years by the Los Angeles County Probation Department at Central Juvenile Hall. In 2006, Louise moved to Beaver Dam.
Louise was a member of the Prairie View Club, and the Jet Setters, a social and charitable organization. She enjoyed music, singing, dancing and traveling.
Survivors include her brother, Ardell James “Jim” (Jenice) Bowie, Beaver Dam, one nephew, Kenneth Bowie, Fontana, CA, three nieces, Barbara (Leroy) Gooden, Riverside, CA, Cathy Jones, Dallas, TX, Patricia Dioury, Senegal, West Africa, several grand-nieces and nephews, special friends, W.L. and Verlitha Grant, Dallas, TX, as well as many other loyal friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, and one nephew.
