Lucille J. Vorpahl, age 86, formerly of Horicon, died Monday, August 26, 2013 at Kimberly Assisted Living in Kimberly.
Visitation for Lucille will be at Murray Funeral Home, 716 Clinton Street in Horicon, on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where the American Legion Auxiliary Post #157 will conduct a service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also take place at St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church in Horicon on Friday, August 30, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM. Funeral services will follow at church beginning at 11:00 AM. Rev. Jonathan Szczesny will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon.
The former Lucille Jeanette Bechert was born on April 13, 1927 in Dodge County, Wisconsin to the late John and Sophie (Belover) Bechert. She graduated from Horicon High School in 1945 and, on June 21, 1947, was united in marriage with Arthur “Tom” Vorpahl in Juneau. Lucille moved back to Horicon in 1950 where she had been a member of St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church. Through the years, she worked at Gardner Manufacturing in Horicon, Renewal of Watertown, and for Energy Services in Beaver Dam. Lucille had been an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #157 and served as the former County President, District Chaplain, and Sergeant of Arms. She was also a volunteer driver for Dodge County Human Services. In 1996, Tom and Lucille moved to Appleton and became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She loved to volunteer and did so for many organizations, such as at the St. Joseph Food Pantry. Lucille enjoyed bowling, camping and traveling. Her husband, children and grandchildren were extremely important to her and she loved to cook for the family gatherings and holidays; she will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her five children, Carol Nehls of Watertown, Brenda Binder of Kimberly, Sharon Bergsma of Appleton, Wayne Vorpahl (Art Vietro) of White Plains, NY, and Marion (James) Roovers of Kimberly; nine grandchildren, Oran (Amy) Nehls of Green Bay, Jeff (Chris) Nehls of Watertown, Jon (Bridgett) Nehls of Pewaukee, Brian (Jennifer) Binder of Phoenix, AZ, Aaron Bergsma of Madison, Abby Bergsma of Indio, CA, Wendy (Troy) Van Nuland of Kimberly, Alison Roovers (Ryan McCormick) of Appleton, and Nicholas Roovers of Kimberly; nine great grandchildren; her sister, Jackie Schiess of Mayville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son-in-law, Ron Bergsma; her brother, Hurley Bechert; and two infant sisters.
The family extends a special thanks to Kimberly Assisted Living and Southern Care Hospice for their gentle care and support of our mom.
