Mae June (nee Zeatlow) Poetter, 86, of Beaver Dam passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at her home. Mae was born on May 19, 1932 in Princeton, WI, the daughter of Richard and Esther (Smith) Zeatlow. Her lifelong commitment of faith began with her baptism on June 12, 1932 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Princeton. She was married to Herbert O. Poetter on December 13, 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Packwaukee, WI. They became parents of Jim, Dick, and Karen. After the death of her sister, Mary, Mae and Herb took into their family her young niece, Ronda and raised her as their daughter. Mae was devoted to her entire family and spent much of her time helping them in any way she could. Mae was a member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. She enjoyed her volunteer work at both the church and the Bethesda Fair for many years. One of Mae’s favorite hobbies was sewing plastic canvas projects and displaying her work at various craft shows with her daughter-in-law, Cheryl. She had the opportunity to go on many special vacations with Herb and other family members. After she moved to Prairie Ridge, she enjoyed the company of many new friends, both residents and staff. Mae was always known for her friendly smile and it will be missed by those who survive her including her children: James (Roxanne) Poetter, Richard (Cheryl) Poetter, Karen (Ken) Gertsch, and foster daughter, Ronda (Dave) Thiel; her grandchildren: Kathy (Kory) Leistico, David Poetter, Michael Poetter, and Kristen Gertsch; her great grandchildren: Daniel Poetter, Kendall and Kaleigh Leistico, and Madyson Zedrick; her brothers: Charles (Mandy) Zeatlow and David Zeatlow; a sister: Grace Yaap; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband: Herbert on January 28, 2006; parents; brothers: Edward, Lester, Arthur, Lawrence, Robert, John, and Donald; and sisters: Edna, Evelyn, and Mary. The visitation for Mae will be at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 9:30 until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Seth Dorn will officiate and burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Mae developed Shingles and was in extreme pain in her last months. One of her last wishes was that others would receive relief from this painful disease by something that was tried on her, but that relief was not to be found. She never received the Shingles Vaccine, but would definitely advise anyone considering it to make sure they get it. Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
