Mae Smith, age 92, of Beaver Dam, died Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Charleston House in Beaver Dam. Visitation for Mae will be at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Ed Cody officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Peter Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Mae was born on December 14, 1925 in Horicon, Wisconsin to the late Thomas and Grace (Wilson) Karas. She graduated from Horicon High School, class of 1943. On October 19, 1946, Mae was united in marriage with Virgil Smith in Beaver Dam and has been a Beaver Dam resident ever since. She was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish and has been active in the Catholic Women’s Society. Survivors include her husband, Virgil Smith of Beaver Dam; four children, JoAnn (Tom) Helfert of Beaver Dam, Wayne (Beverly) Smith of Beaver Dam, Jeanine (Tom) Sachs of Shawano, and Gary (Julie) Smith of Edgerton; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Craig Smith; two brothers, Kenneth Karas and Alex Karas; and her sister, Irene Pomerville.
