Margaret Ann “Peggy” Kordus, age 59, of Rocford, formerly of Beaver Dam, died Monday, June 5, 2006 at the Alden Alma Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Rockford, Illinois.
Friends and family may call at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, June 9, 2006 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM. Visitation will again be on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 South Spring Street, in Beaver Dam from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 AM. Fr. John Schreiter will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Michael”s Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Margaret Ann was born on July 31, 1946 in Durand, Wisconsin to Daniel “Don” and Marion (Murray) Kordus. She attended school in Beaver Dam and two years at St. Colletta in Jefferson, Wisconsin. She later earned a Certificate of Completion from the Beaver Dam High School in 1965. Peggy was a charter member of the Dodge County Sheltered Workshop where she worked from 1968 to 2000 (it became Green Valley in 1978). She was active in Special Olympics since 1980 and participated in bowling and many different Track and Field events. In 1991, Peggy was selected to go to Minneapolis, Minnesota as part of the Team Wisconsin Bowling Team that participated in the International Special Olympics. In 2000, she moved to Illinois where she lived at Provena Group Home. Peggy worked at Malcom Eaton Enterprises Workshop from 2002 to 2004, when she was forced to leave due to health problems. She has lived the last year and a half at the Alden Alma Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Rockford, Illinois.
Survivors include her father Don Kordus of Beaver Dam, her sisters and brother, Rebecca (Dennis) Ackerman of Pecatonica, Illinois, Mary (Richard) McMillian of Magalia, California and Robert (Barbara) Ptaschinski of Waukesha, her sister-in-law Diane Kordus of Waterford, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her mother, Marion Kordus, and her brother, Michael Kordus on January 13, 2006.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Margaret “Peggy” Kordus” name to the Special Olympics.
The Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam is serving the family.
