On behalf of the membership of the Beaver Dam Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), I would like to extend sincere condolences on the passing of Margaret Macfarlane. Margaret''s long and distinguished career as an attorney, working for the federal government in Washington and later, in Wisconsin, with the Wisconsin Hospital Association compiling a manual on Hospital Law, was a remarkable achievement for anyone, but especially for a woman born in the early years of the past century. For a woman of her generation from a small town in Wisconsin to set her sights on a law degree from George Washington University in Washington D.C., and, to be admitted to the Bar in the District of Columbia, was in itself rare and remarkable. Margaret Macfarlane''s life epitomizes the mission of AAUW over the past 125 years: to advance equity for women and girls in education and employment and to be a powerful advocate and visible leader in breaking through barriers to equity and education for women and girls through research, philanthropy and measurable change. We are indebted to women like Margaret who blazed the trail and inspired a whole generation of women to follow. Thank you, Margaret.
