Margaret (Mrs. Archibald) Macfarlane, age 92, died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Remembrance Home in Beaver Dam.
A memorial mass will be conducted on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Waupun. The Reverend Peter Bird will officiate. Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall. Inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
The former Evelyn Margaret Lamoreaux was born on June 24, 1916 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late Harland and Leona (Miller) Lamoreaux. She attended local schools and graduated from high school in 1934. She received her law degree from George Washington University in Washington D.C. in 1941 and was admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia that same year. Margaret was united in marriage with Archibald Hepburn Macfarlane of Philadelphia, PA at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. on July 31, 1947. Margaret had continuous service in the federal government from 1934 to 1971, serving in the Agricultural Adjustment Administration, the National Archives, the Board of Economic Warfare and the US General Accounting Office. At the time of her retirement, she was the first woman in the US General Accounting Office to be awarded the Comptroller General”s distinguished service award. Margaret and her husband Arch moved to Beaver Dam in 1971 and lived in the Lamoreaux home in Beaver Dam.
In retirement, she served as legal research counsel for the Wisconsin Hospital Association and compiled a two-volume manual on Wisconsin Hospital
