Margaret Owens Knop passed away at her home December 10th, 2020 at the age of 95. She has now joined her loving husband Edward. Margaret was born in Beaver Dam Wisconsin, January 19th, 1925. She lived on various farms in Dodge County with her family. She was a graduate of Horicon High School, class of 1942, and then went to Mercy School of Nursing in Janesville. Margaret was a nurse for the city of Horicon, Waupun and Beaver Dam hospitals and then at John Deere. She cared for her patients with dignity. She knew their problems and afflictions but did not tell a soul. Margaret and Ed were married for 71 years. Years full of laughter, hard work, adventures and some tears. Together they raised 5 children, welcomed son and daughter in laws and helped with the care of their grandchildren. Margaret was an active volunteer in Horicon. She was a member of the United Methodist Church; the Young at Heart and Women’s group she enjoyed very much. Remember potlucks? She often would bring a pistachio torte. She contributed to making the chili and soup at the annual church Chili Supper on election day. The American Legion Auxiliary, Horicon Historical Society, Reach to Recovery and Meals on Wheels were some groups to which she dedicated her time. After retirement at the age of 70 Margaret started horseback riding. She would accompany students from the Sunshine Room at the elementary school on their field trips. Never a fan of swimming, she still got in the pool with those kids. She also enjoyed her weekly card games with the ladies, Friday fish fries, Heinie’s pizza, a cold beer or a crisp white wine. Most of all she loved her family and we loved her.
