Mark Allan Straseskie

December 8, 1950 - December 26, 2008

Mark A. Straseskie, Sr., age 58, died on Friday, December 26, 2008 at his home in Beaver Dam.

The visitation for Mark will be on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. There will also be a visitation on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. The funeral service for Mark will follow on Wednesday at the funeral home at 12:00 Noon with Fr. John Schreiter officiating. Inurnment will take place on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM with military honors provided by the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146.

Mark Allan Straseskie was born on December 8, 1950, in Beaver Dam, to Verlyn and Yvonne (Preston) Straseskie. He served his country in the Marine Corp National Guard and was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. Mark retired from John Deere in 1999 and worked part-time driving for S & R Taxi in Beaver Dam. He loved to ice fish but he looked forward to his vacations to Florida each year and the warm summer days in Wisconsin. Mark was extremely proud of his country and his family and will continue to be in his eternal life. Mark was a member the Wisconsin National Guard, Waupun unit, Company A, a past commander of the Marine Corp League and was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish.

Mark is survived by his daughter, Brie Straseskie, Beaver Dam, mother, Yvonne Straseskie, Beaver Dam, brother, John (Barbara) Straseskie, Beaver Dam, cousin (adopted brother), David (Tina) Preston, Fort Myers, FL, nephews, John Straseskie, Virginia Beach, VA, Chris, Fond du Lac, and Ryan, Beaver Dam, his life-long friend and former wife, Cindy Straseskie-Freeman, Beaver Dam, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, his son, Mark A. Straseskie, Jr., nephew, Kirk Straseskie, USMC Iraq 03, and his Uncle David and Aunt Mary Preston.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Mark A. Straseskie”s name to the Kirk Straseskie Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 438, Beaver Dam, WI, 53916.

I am sorry to hear of this sad news. I have several worm remembrances of times spend with Mark, but one stands out the most. Mark took me ice fishing on the coldest day that I have ever experience. It was so cold that our beer froze which prompted us to leave. During our fishing adventure, he taught me how to ice fish in Wisconsin. Although we caught only one fish, I got to hear a lot of good stories. Still to this day, I consider that experience as one of my best memories. Mark was a warm and loving person that meant a lot me.
