Maxine “Dotty” Lewis, age 98, died on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Winchester Place in Horicon.
The memorial gathering will be at Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The memorial service will follow at the church on Tuesday at 11:30 AM with Rev. Mark Hasty officiating. Inurnment will be at Oakhill Cemetery in Horicon.
The former Maxine Dorothy Firehammer was born on March 24, 1914 in Horicon, Wisconsin to Arthur and Lydia (Streich) Firehammer. On December 30, 1946 she was united in marriage with William “Bob” Lewis. Dotty had many interests and was involved in many organizations in the area. She was a member of the Horicon Library Board and was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon. Dotty was also a part of the Door County Taxpayers and the Dodge County Republican Women. She was a member of the Racine Ski Club and the Wau-Bun Girl Scout Council. Dotty won the highest award for Girl Scouts, The Thanks Badge. She was active in the Local Collectors Clique Club and sponsored children through the Christian Children”s Fund. Dotty wore her red apron proudly, while ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, well into her 90”s.
Dotty was a loving aunt to Linda (Jeff) Mico and William Firehammer. She is also survived by great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Vivian Hains, and a brother, William Firehammer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to Dodge County Humane Society.
