Merlin F. Etscheid, age 68, of Beaver Dam, died on Friday, May 3, 2013 at University Hospital in Madison.
The visitation will be at Murray Funeral Home in Reeseville on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 7:00 PM with Rev. Donald Steinberg officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery in Reeseville on Thursday, May 9, at 11:00 AM.
Merlin Fred Etscheid was born on February 13, 1945 to Clarence and Gladys (Huebner) Etscheid in Columbus, Wisconsin. He grew up on a farm in Rural Reeseville and attended Goebel Grade School. Merlin graduated from Lowell-Reeseville High School in 1964. He helped his mother work the family farm after his father”s passing in March of 1964. Merlin worked for Kress Packing Company in Waterloo until it closed then worked at Watertown Metals for 27 years until his retirement in 2007. Merlin did janitor work for several taverns in Watertown. He was an avid Packer Fan and stock holder. He also enjoyed fishing, driving tractor for his friend, Al Benninger, and raising night crawlers.
Merlin is survived by his sisters, Phyllis Schulz of Reeseville and Marie (Russell) Loeffler of Watertown; brother-in-law, Donald Wolfgram of Lake Mills; nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and his special angels. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Wolfgram; and brother, Donald Etscheid. His family will miss his friendly greeting “Hello, and how are you today?” when they would call him.
If desired, memorials may be made to Trinity Cemetery Association or to the Lowell-Reeseville First Responders.
