Michael J. Gallagher, age 60, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at his home in Beaver Dam.
Visitation for Mike will be at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM where the Knights of Columbus will conduct a prayer service at 7:00 PM. On Thursday, April 15, 2010 visitation will be held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 127 W. Maple Avenue in Beaver Dam, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Thursday at church, beginning at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Michael John Gallagher was born on May 7, 1949 in Madison, Wisconsin to the late John and Agnes (McGinty) Gallagher. He graduated from Edgewood High School in Madison in 1967 and from MATC in 1969 with a degree in Mechanical Design Technology. Mike then took a job with Ohio Medical Products for three years before returning to UW Stout and graduating in 1974 with a degree in Industrial Technology. On August 6, 1977, he was united in marriage with Ann Wendt in Ft. Atkinson. He worked for several companies through the years including, Jamesway Div. of Butler Mfg., Joerns Health Care, and Busse Brothers. Mike was a life-time member of the Society of Mfg. Engineers where he was the first Chairman of UW-Stout Student Chapter, Chairman of the Madison Chapter #75 in 1978, Region 9 Chairman in 1986, on the International Board of Directors and received the Award of Merit in 1992. Mike helped several Boy Scouts with their Eagle projects, including his son Jeff. He was very active at the Beaver Dam Family Center and was a member of the Caboose Restoration Project at the Chamber of Commerce in Beaver Dam. He made three trips down to Bay St. Louis, MS to help build houses after Hurricane Katrina. Mike was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Council #1837 in Beaver Dam where he was Grand Knight for two years and the Tootsie Roll Drive Chairman. He developed an interest in cars during high school and began racing stock cars. He restored five ”57 Fords and was a member of the Stevens Point Old Car Club, the Badger Antique Auto Club, Northwoods Shelby American Auto Club, International Ford Retractable Club, and the Great Lakes Chapter of the IFRC.
Mike is survived by his wife, Ann and his son, Jeff, of Beaver Dam and Milwaukee respectively; his sister, Mary Ann (Miles) Van Slyke of Mosinee; two brothers, Tom (Sue) Gallagher and Jim (Kelly) Gallagher, both of Madison, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Curtis Michael, his parents, and two nephews, Gregory Van Slyke and Kevin Wendt.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Michael J. Gallagher”s name to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Society, or Hillside HomeCare/Hospice.
