Nina Pedersen Gloede, age 95 of Mayville, WI, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 9 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville, WI. with the Rev. Daniel Seehafer officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Internment will take place at the Phelps Cemetery in Phelps, WI on Saturday, October 10.Nina was born the daughter of Norwegian immigrants Andreas and Marie (Olsen) Pedersen on May 25, 1920 in Phelps, WI. She was the youngest of six children. After graduating from Phelps High School, Nina received an education degree and master’s degree from Whitewater State College (University of Wisconsin – Whitewater). She began her teaching career at Phelps High School for four years, then accepted a business education teaching position at Mayville High School in 1946 where she taught for 41 years. Nina taught accounting, recordkeeping, office practices, and typing. Following her retirement in 1987, she established the Nina P. Gloede Scholarship awarded to Mayville High School students pursuing business or accounting degrees at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. Nina’s first employer wrote the following in a 1946 letter of recommendation: Miss Pedersen has proved herself to be a person of exceptionally fine character and high ideals without being stilted. Her sense of fair play and loyalty to her superiors and fellow teachers can be classed as highly superior. The profession could stand more of her kind.Nina married Arthur B. Gloede, a Mayville hardware store owner, on April 7, 1951. Nina and Art spent as much time as possible at the family homestead property on South Twin Lake in Phelps, homesteaded by her father in 1905. Their immediate and extended family continue to enjoy family cottages on this property. Nina was an avid Wisconsin sports teams fan,with a special affinity for the Green Bay Packers. Nina is survived by her sons – Peter A. (Ruth) Gloede of Inverness, IL and Drew C. Gloede of Germantown, WI. Her grandchildren – Lauren G. (David) Truesdale of Boston, MA; Brian P. (fiance Nicole) Gloede of Chicago, IL; Trevor A. Gloede, and Benjamin C. Gloede, students at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. Her first great-grandchild is due in November.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art in 2010, and her siblings – Ethel Pedersen, Roy Pedersen, Harriet Massie, Ken Pedersen and Arnold Pedersen.Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Ev.
