Philip J. Gerg passed away peacefully Sunday morning, July 25, 2010, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
Phil was born in Beaver Dam, WI on December 27, 1922. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II from April 1943-February 1946. Phil married Marge (nee Pierce)Gerg on February 10, 1945 and they enjoyed 65 years together prior to Marge”s passing in May of this year. Phil worked at Monarch Range for over 40 years. He was an avid Packer, Badger, and Brewer fan.
Preceding Phil in death was his Mother Martha (nee Polzin) Gerg, Father John Gerg, Brother John “Hans” Gerg, wife Marge (Pierce) Gerg, and twin son Michael Gerg. He is survived by son Phil (Jeanne) Gerg of Sun Prairie, daughter Peg (Dike) Drummond of Seattle, WA, Granddaughters, Jeni Gerg of Sun Prairie, Rose Drummond of Seattle, WA, and Grandsons Chris Gerg of Mt. Horeb, WI, Sam Drummond of Seattle WA, great granddaughters Jessika Gerg, Sun Prairie, Sarah Gerg, Mt. Horeb, and great grandson Matthew Gerg, Mt. Horeb. He is further survived by Becky Gerg, Mother of Sarah and Matthew Gerg.
The family would like to thank the Hillside Manor 2nd floor staff for kind and gentle care they provided during Phil”s time there. Additionally, we would like to thank Hospice for the care they provided to him in his last days. He will be missed by many.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 127 W. Maple Avenue in Beaver Dam on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Fr. Michael J. Erwin will officiate. There will be a luncheon served in the church hall immediately following the mass. There will be a memorial gathering at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM to the time of service.
