Robert B. Schabel, 83, of Mayville, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac. A visitation for Bob will take place Monday, January 22, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Father Tom Biersack presiding at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the Mayville American Legion Post #69 following the Mass. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery at a later date. Robert Bernard Schabel was born the son of John and Margaret (Kahlhamer) Schabel on February 1, 1934 in Lastrop, Minnesota. He was a graduate of Mayville High School. On July 12, 1958 Robert was united in marriage with Janice L. Kollmansberger at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. He went on to work for Maysteel, and retired from Mayville Metal Products. Robert was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Army. Bob was a member of the local Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed traveling, watching the Packers, bowling, camping, playing cards and dice. He will be missed by his wife Janice Schabel of Mayville, children; Jennifer (Gerard) Schraufnagel of Appleton, Andrew (Sheryl) Schabel of Columbus, Christopher (Maria) Schabel of Horicon, Heide (Jeffrey) Cords of Fond du Lac, Benjamin (Jennifer) Schabel of Horicon, sister and brothers; Theresa (Lloyd) Drake of Mayville, Henry (Diane) Schabel of Fond du Lac, James (Mary) Schabel of LeRoy, brothers and sisters-in-law; Marvin Lee of Pickett, Ronald Kollmansberger of San Diego, CA, Joanne (Dewey) Bonack of Beaver Dam, Virginia (Randy) Grebel of Beaver Dam, Dan Kollmanserger of Orlando, FL, Annette (Brian) Fryda of Fond du Lac; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty five great-grandchildren. He is further survived by other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister; Marjorie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville.A special thank you to the St. Francis Home & Agnesian Hospice for the loving care they have given Bob in his final months.
