Robert J. Hammer, age 87, passed away in his sleep on January 30, 2013.
Visitation will be at St. Katherine Drexel Church, 511 S. Spring Street in Beaver Dam on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 9:30 AM to 10:50 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 AM with Fr. Michael Erwin officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter”s Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Bob was born August 25, 1925, in the Town of Beaver Dam to Robert M. and Rose (Bebula) Hammer. He attended St. Peter”s parochial grade school in Beaver Dam, and graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1943. On October 11, 1952 he was united in marriage to Corrine Kempfer at St. Peter”s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Bob worked for the state Department of Corrections for 26 years, while raising his family in Oregon, Wisconsin. He then worked for about eight years driving for Purolator Courier Services. After retiring a second time, he moved back to Beaver Dam and worked part-time at St. Peter”s cemetery for 10 years. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Bob is survived by his wife, Corrine, his children Barbara (David) Sperry, Michael (Cynthia), Wayne (Cindy), and Lynn (George) Davis, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-granddaughters, his sister Bernice, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Lee Michael, his parents, his sister Grace Haas, and brothers Francis and Stanley.
If desired, memorials may be made in Robert Hammer”s name to St. Katharine Drexel Parish Center Fund or to Hillside HomeCare/Hospice.
