Robert L. McKinstry, age 89, of Beaver Dam, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
Visitation for Bob will be held at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Private family graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam where the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 will provide military honors. While the family is at the graveside, everyone is invited to the Charleston House on Fakes Court where refreshments will be served; the family will join folks there following the committal service.
Robert Longley McKinstry was born on November 13, 1919 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to the late Irwin and Laura (Kalkhurst) McKinstry. He attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. In December of 1941, Bob was united in marriage with Grace Nesbit in Galesburg, Illinois. He served in the United States Army during World War II and served in the Philippines, New Guinea and Australia. In the early 1950”s Bob moved to Beaver Dam where he owned and operated Mac”s Hobby Shop and later Mac”s Photo Mart. In 1978, he retired and moved to Florida and returned to Beaver Dam in the mid to late 1980”s. Bob was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and was an active volunteer with Meals-on-Wheels and Hillside Hospice.
Survivors include two daughters, Colleen (Tom) Newell of Hagerstown, MD and Marilyn McKinstry of Woods Hole, MA, his special friend, Marien Henderson of Waupun, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, his cousin, John McKinstry of Beaver Dam, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Jean Schmus.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Robert L. McKinstry”s name to Hillside Hospice, 707 South University Avenue, Beaver Dam, WI 53916.
