Robert R. “Bob” Chlebowski, age 85, of Beaver Dam died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Golden Living Continental Manor in Randolph where he had been a resident the past two months.
Visitation for Bob will be at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 South Spring Street in Beaver Dam, on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church on Thursday at 11:30 AM with Fr. Tom Perrin, SDS officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
Bob was born on February 5, 1928 in Green Bay, the son of Harry and Mary (Waskowiak) Chlebowski. He grew up on a dairy farm outside of Pulaski. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1946 where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football. Bob loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening throughout his life. He spent two years in the Army after high school.
On November 23, 1950, he was united in marriage with Therese “Terry” Mazanec in Antigo. Bob worked in sales for various companies before attending college. He completed a four year degree in three years by attending year round, graduating from Dodge County Teacher”s College in Mayville, then UW-Oshkosh, while working nights and weekends at a gas station and raising five children! He later went on to complete two Master”s Degrees from UW-Oshkosh.
Bob was well-known for his wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed telling people that he “spent 27 years in the fifth grade”, referring to his teaching career at Trenton Elementary School in rural Beaver Dam. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Education Association, Wisconsin Education Association, and the National Education Association. He was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church for many years, serving as usher, CCD instructor, and Boy Scout Leader. He served on the board of the Dodge County Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Survivors include four of his children, R. Daniel (Alice Reuter) Chlebowski of Beaver Dam, Michael (Patricia) Chlebowski of Deerbrook, Mary (Jack) Hobbs of Fond du Lac, Karen (Bob) Lightly of Belleville, and a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Chlebowski of Snohomish, WA; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; his brothers, Jerry (Betty) Chlebowski of Madison and Don Clayton of Marietta, GA; his sister, Carol Miller of New Franken; sister-in-law, Jeanne Chlebowski of Lake St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law, Ralph Kurowski of Green Bay; nieces, nephews, Terry”s extensive family, and many friends. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Terry; his and Terry”s parents; his son Steven in 1961; his son Patrick on May 1, 2013; his sister, Eleanor Kurowski; his brother, Harry Chlebowski; and four brothers-in-law.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Bob”s name to the Arthritis Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, or the American Heart Association.
