Roland “Rollie” Voigt, age 82, of Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison.
The visitation will be at Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM. There will also be a visitation at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 10:00 AM until the time of service. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kurtis L. Mau officiating. Entombment will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the Trenton Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Military Honors will be provided by the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146.
Roland Richard Voigt was born on November 23, 1928 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to Herman and Edna (Schutte) Voigt. He was a life-long resident of the Beaver Dam area. Rollie served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage with Sharon Ann Kuhnke on August 1, 1953 in Beaver Dam. Rollie owned and operated R.R. Voigt Trucking, hauling livestock and produce for various canning companies. He also farmed in the Beaver Dam area. After retirement, Rollie stayed busy with several different part-time jobs. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and fishing. Rollie was always willing to give advice and help out a neighbor in need.
He is survived by his children, Tom (Sue) of Waupaca, Randy (Deb) of Beaver Dam, and Karen (Dick) Plath of Cambria, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, brothers, Mike (Gerry) of Beaver Dam, Eugene (Lois) of Juneau, and Earl (Marge) of Beaver Dam, a sister, Lola (Dave) Milner of Oakfield, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2009, a daughter, Diane Voigt and a brother Merlin (Viola).
The family suggests that memorials be made in Roland Voigt”s name to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to the Dodge County Humane Society.
