Ronald M. McCarthy, age 84, of Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Beaver Dam.

Visitation for Ron will be at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 South Spring Street in Beaver Dam, on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 9:30AM to 10:50 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at church beginning at 11:00AM. Fr. Michael J. Erwin will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael”s Cemetery.

Ronald Michael McCarthy was born on September 28, 1927 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late Alvin and Gladys (Winebrenner) McCarthy. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School and attended the Agricultural Program at UW Madison. Ron served in the United States Navy during World War II and also in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On June 6, 1959, he was united in marriage with Jean D. Kaiser in Beaver Dam. She preceded him in death March 17, 2007. Ron farmed in the Town of Oak Grove throughout his life until he retired in 1987. He was a member of the American Angus Association, the Wisconsin Angus Association, and St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Parish where he had been active in the St. Michael”s Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his three children, Michael (FiancAC.e-Carol Brazee) McCarthy of Beaver Dam, David (Michelle) McCarthy of Mundelein, Illinois and Julie (Andrew) Harmsen of Juneau; four grandchildren, Steven and Sean Harmsen, Allison McCarthy and Scott Kempel; two brothers-in-law, James (Ann) Kaiser and Richard (Maxine) Kaiser, both of Beaver Dam, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosemary and George Sieja.

If desired, memorials may be made in Ronald M. McCarthy”s name to Alzheimer”s Association.

Phoebe and family, please except our sympathies ~ We have lost a dear friend and co-worker, he was very sincere and very caring person to all. He will be missed by all. Rest in peace our friend.

We were saddened to hear of Ron''s passing and regret that we could not be there for the service. I have fond memories of staying with my cousins on the "farm"; Uncle Ron and Aunt Jeanne were always so welcoming and Ron always made sure there was plenty of humor to go around. The two of them stopped by our home in Idaho a few years back when they were traveling and we had a great visit. I still have a photo of Uncle Ron, standing proudly on a high hill that he just hiked to the top of--with a big grin and his nitroglycerine bottle held high! Always the comedian, and quite the character. Although we couldn''t be there in person today, know that our thoughts are with all of you. Please accept our sincere condolences.
