Sidonia K. Boom, 96 years, of Beaver Dam and formerly of Dayton, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Mark A. Wenzel officiating. A visitation will also be held on Monday, April 15th from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Inurnment will be at Hay River Cemetery, Boyceville, Wisconsin at a later date.
Sidonia was born October 15, 1916 to Ben and Adeline (Kollman) Kuenzi in the town of Chester, Dodge County. She graduated from Waupun High School in 1933. She attended Oshkosh Business College and was employed for several years by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture in Madison.
She married Reuben H. Retz in 1940 and lived 31 years in Dayton, Ohio where Reuben was employed by the U.W. Air Force as an engineer. They adopted two children, Randall and Phyllis. She was pre-deceased by Reuben, Phyllis, and Randall.
In 1992, Sidonia married John Boom, formerly of Waupun, who died in 1998.
Sidonia is a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam and also the Peace Circle. She and her husband Reuben were instrumental in the establishing of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fairborn, Ohio in 1948. Sidonia was a strong and faithful servant of the Lord who worked to spread the Gospel of the Lord to all.
Sidonia is survived by her sister Doris Hampel of Springfield, Virginia; sister-in-law Dorothy Kuenzi of Fond du Lac; granddaughter Randi Jean Retz of Dayton, Ohio; four stepchildren: John E. (Janet) Boom of Golden, Colorado, Anthony A. Boom of Ashland, Oregon, Robert (Becky) Boom of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Kathryn (Richard) Cima of Nelson, British Columbia. She has five step-grandchildren: Gregg (Marnie) Boom of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Christina (Richard) Parker of Langley, Washington, Toby (Michelle) McElroy of Dartmuth, Nova Scotia, Wren McElroy of Nelson, B.C. and Nicholas Cima of Nelson, B.C. and also six step great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben, daughter Phyllis, son Randall; second husband John, brothers: Harrison Kuenzi and Adelbert (Jean) Kuenzi and sister Margaret Kuenzi.
