Theodore J. Kachelski passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam after a long illness.
Visitation for Ted will be at Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Monday, August 9, 2010 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. There will also be a visitation at the Church on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 127 W. Maple Ave., in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Michael Erwin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael”s Cemetery, Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
He was born in Beaver Dam on November 10, 1931, to Frank and Martha (Rataczak) Kachelski. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1949. He attended Wayland Junior College and went on to serve in the Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in France, where he participated in the construction of Chaumont-Semoutiers Air Force Base. After his discharge from the Army, he graduated from UW-Oshkosh.
He married Nancy Winnie on September 14, 1957. Ted and Nancy briefly lived in Milwaukee, where Ted worked for the W.T. Grant Company. In 1959, Ted and Nancy moved back to Beaver Dam, when Ted began working for the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen, continuing there until his retirement in 1996.
Ted was an avid fisherman all his life, and enjoyed talking about U.S. history as well as local and family history. He was a member of American Legion Post 146 and Knights of Columbus Council 1837.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, four sons and eight grandchildren: Joseph (Barbara) and their sons Adam and Noah, of Verona; James (Angela) and their children Theo, Emma, Grace and Rose, of Glendale; David (Mara) and their daughters, Anastasia and Caroline, of Wauwatosa; and Donald, of Beaver Dam; He is also survived by one brother, Robert (Viola) Kachelski of Beaver Dam, and one sister, M. Audrey Kachelski of Oshkosh, as well as nieces, nephews and friends.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Kahelski, and two sisters, M. Grace Johnson, and Rita Knoll.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Beaver Dam Community Hospitals, Hillside Manor, and Hillside Hospice for their outstanding service. Memorials may be made to St. Katharine Drexel School or the BDCH Foundation, Inc.
