Theodore “Ted” Wahlen, age 81, died on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at his home in Beaver Dam.

Visitation for Ted will be at the Murray Funeral Home, 131 East Maple Avenue in Beaver Dam, on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. On Friday, October 25, 2013, there will be a visitation at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 950 Washington Street in Horicon, from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM; a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Friday at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at St. Peter”s Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Theodore Joseph Wahlen was born on October 12, 1932 in Pardeeville, Wisconsin to Theodore J. and Inez M. (Steiner) Wahlen. On April 12, 1969, Ted was united in marriage with JoAnn H. Gehrke in Beaver Dam. He had hard working, talented hands and specialized in carpentry. Teddy could also work with electrical, plumbing and masonry. He was proud of the many things that he constructed that can be seen around the Beaver Dam area. Some considered Ted to be a unique legend in his own time. He was always willing to help out a friend under any circumstance. Teddy also was a faithful Catholic.

Survivors are his wife, JoAnn Wahlen of Beaver Dam; children, Renee (Scott Tillema) Wahlen of Waupun, Steven Wahlen of Green Bay, and Barry Wahlen (fiancAC.e, Tracy) of Green Bay; grandchildren, Toller and Bree Tillema, Lucas (Danielle) Wahlen, and Casey (Julie) Wahlen; four great grandchildren; brother and sisters, Gloria (Ken) Waddell of Beaver Dam, Judi Welsch of Beaver Dam, and Peter (Margaret) Wahlen of Sturgeon Bay; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Tracey; and brother-in-law, Jim Welsch.

A special thank you to Ted”s two sisters, Gloria and Judi, and his niece, Lisa, as well as Hillside Hospice for all of their care. Also, thank you to all who sent well wishes, gifts, and attended Ted”s 81st birthday party.
