Thomas Aquinas Joda, age 87, of Iron Ridge, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away on October 26, 2017 at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 31 at 3 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville with the Rev. Fr. Tom Biersack presiding. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 31 from 1 to 3 pm at the church, where he was a member. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee on Wednesday, November 1st at 11 am, All Saints Day.Thomas was born the son of Frank and Johanna (Besendorfer) Joda on January 4, 1930 in Milwaukee. He was a graduate of Messmer High School and a veteran of the US Army, serving in Korea during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Nancy K. Riggins on August 27, 1951 at St. Catherine’s in Milwaukee. While serving in Korea he was a railroad Engineer. Upon returning Stateside, he continued his railroad career by working for the Milwaukee Road. He then went on to become a City of Milwaukee Police Officer. Music played an important role in Thomas’ life. He met his future wife Nancy while playing in the Messmer High School Band. Thomas played trumpet in many area bands during his life, most notably the Milwaukee Police Band, the 84th Division Reserve Band, and the 1st Brigade Band. Most important to Thomas were his wife and his family and he cherished the time spent with them.Thomas is survived by his wife Nancy of Iron Ridge. His children – Christine (Stephen) Kosowski of Minneapolis, MN, Jennifer (Mark) Novara of Middlebury, IN, Kathleen (Thomas) Perry of Greenfield, Timothy (Kathleen Willmering) Joda of Wauwatosa, Patrick (Jaclyn) Joda of Pleasanton, CA, Daniel (Sarah) Joda of Nashotah, Peter Joda of Pewaukee, Caroline (James) Alvarado of Beaumont, TX, Stephen (Ann) Joda of Brookfield, and Kevin (Jennifer) Joda of New Berlin. His grandchildren – Joseph (Tamara Gonzalez) Kosowski, Michael Kosowski, John (Sarah Claassen) Kosowski, Laura Kosowski, Timothy (Gilbert Manzano) Novara, Robert (Robin) King Novara, Rachelle (Maxwell) Witine, Patrick Novara, Sarah (Chad) Campeau, Stephanie (Matt) Yoder, Scott (Caitlin) Perry, Maxwell (Amanda) Joda, Samuel Joda, Andrew Joda, Melissa Joda (Simon) Moody, David Joda, Matthew Joda, Amanda (Kevin) Avery, Benjamin Alvarado, Ciara Alvarado, Konrad Joda, Ian Joda, Adam Joda, and Erin Joda. His 8 great grandchildren – Dylan, Charlotte, Aden, Levi, Gabriel, Isak, Lucas, Miles. His brother Robert Joda, S. J. of Wauwatosa. His sister Patricia (John) Linnemanstons of Adell. His sister-in-law Lynda Caudell of Monroe. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Francis Joda, granddaughter Heather Rose Graham and grandson Thomas Novara.
