Virgil H. Metke, 86, a resident of Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Waupun and formerly of Mayville passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018.Virgil was born the son of Edwin and Martha (Fink) Metke on September 13, 1931 in the town of Williamstown. He was married to Bernice Retzlaff on May 15, 1954 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in town of Herman. Virgil was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Kekoskee. He served on the Winnebago Lutheran Academy Plenary Board and various boards at St. Peter’s. He was a choir member for over 40 years.Virgil is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bernice; two daughters: Barbara (James) Levinson and Connie (Ron) Wesener both of Mayville; his son, Ron (Rose) Metke of Brownsville; his sister, Carol (Steve) Frankwick of Oconomowoc; eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Craig) Zoellick, Tony (Amber) Levinson, Brian (Emily) Metke, Rachel (Lee Wangberg) Metke, Renae Metke, Brooke (Eric) Frehse, Jessica Wesener, and Randy (Beth) Wesener; eight great grandchildren: Weston Werner, Treyton and Tricity Levinson, Ryan Wesener, Macready and Kalinden Frehse, and Hazel and Isaac Metke; sisters-in-law: Marion Zuehlke, Bonnie Retzlaff, and Margaret Meyer.He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law: Edmund and Augusta Retzlaff, and her brother and sister-in-law: Lloyd and Bernice Metke.A visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Kekoskee on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 12 noon until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the church. Rev. Dennis Bratz will officiate. Interment will take place at Kekoskee Cemetery.Memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Kekoskee or to Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac.
